Two Key Mixing Stages in Battery Manufacturing

Battery electrode production involves two distinct mixing processes, each requiring different equipment and process conditions:

Wet Process

Electrode Slurry Mixing

Active materials (NMC, LFP, NCA, graphite), conductive additives (carbon black), binders (PVDF, CMC/SBR), and solvent (NMP or water) are mixed together to form a homogeneous electrode slurry. This slurry is then coated onto aluminum foil (cathode) or copper foil (anode), dried, and calendered to form battery electrodes.

Dry Process

Electrode Powder Premixing

Before slurry preparation, cathode and anode active material powders — including LFP, NMC, NCA, graphite, and carbon black — are pre-blended in dry form to ensure uniform distribution of particles and conductive agents. Uniform powder premixing reduces agglomeration and improves the consistency of the final slurry.

Ribbon Blender — Dry Powder Mixing

The horizontal ribbon blender is used for pre-blending dry cathode and anode powders before wet slurry preparation. Its inner and outer helical ribbon agitators create a counter-current mixing action that gently and uniformly blends active materials, conductive additives, and dry binders — minimizing particle damage and ensuring consistent batch-to-batch composition.
